Portfolio analysis

video 1-
1. Watch 3 of the 11 Runner-up videos, and answer the following on your blog for EACH:

a. Name of photographer -Alyssa Schukar
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)-photo j
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio -  photos are pretty pessimistic, wasn't much variety in photography, repetitive angles
d. List two things the judges like-
-the photo of the boys in the stairwell
-photo of a man cleaning up against a dirty wall 
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
i liked Alyssas work in telling the eating disorder story, and overall appreciate her 'sad' style because it creates character for her work.

video 2-
a. Name of photographer - Sam Adams
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- sports
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio- the content he captured, the lack of 'what the photo could be', his use of cropping and angles
d. List two things the judges like-his use of action, and capture of shadows
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
I overall like sam's photography, i think he has the hard skill of capturing action through photography. 
I like his photography was pretty constant in topic (action and BMX biking)

video 3-
a. Name of photographer -Melissa Golden
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)-stories
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio -her lack of story background,lack of cropping,nothing was outstanding
d. List two things the judges like-
-the upclose portrait of the old man
-ability to make the best of her angles
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like?
i like the Melissa's ability to tell a brief story through her photography. Specifically her portraits i believe are really great and she does a great job at angles.

2. Watch the winning portfolio critique (Dustin Snipes), and post the following:
a. What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?
-use of angles 
-the moment he captured
b. What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
i think Dustin's angeling was great, but i didn't like his overuse of blur in some photos


3. Watch the contest recap video at the very bottom.
a. Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner.
the judges reflect back on portfolios as a whole and determine if the flaws in their flaws are to big to get in the way of the winning title.


PART 2-INDIVIDUAL IMAGES
1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
(the photo of the girl getting hit by the duck)
i agree with one of the judges that this photo deserves to be POY. I think the fact that the photographer was able to capture such an uncommon picture says alot about his/hers camera skill.

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.

(the photo of the little girl using the punching bag)

i disagree with the judges that this photo wasn't good. In terms of photography i like that the angle is to the height of the little girl, as well as the color usage made by the punching bags.And beyond the photography skills used i like the message of feminine empowerment.
