AMERICAN SOLDIER

A. What is the most powerful image from the pictures printed in the Denver Post over the three weeks they published images from the year of coverage? Why?
The photo of Ian after he confirmed with the army recruiting office, because the photo is symbolic of a journey of his life he was about to embark on.And further symbolizing his life was soon going to be at risk for his country, leaving family, and his lifestyle changing completely.
B. How do the images work together to tell a story?
The pictures are in chronological order of the events that happened, before, during, and after his army experience, that makes it easier for the readers to comprehend his story as a whole.
C. How do the captions enhance the photographs?
The captions further explain the photos.
D. Summarize the story of Ian Fisher, based just on the captions.
Ian Fisher left high school and joined the army at the age of 17 ,beginning his journey in the army.At first he did not enjoy his time in the army, but later adapted it.When his time in the army is done he Ian returns home and marries his Girlfriend.

E. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
The verbs are past tense.
F. Break down the captions:
1. How many sentences are they on average?1-2 sentences.
2. Read the first sentence of a couple of them, what information do they provide? The first sentence provides information about the actions happening in the photo.

3. Read the second sentences of a couple of them, what information do they provide? The second sentence provides a quote from Ian or provides reason for the action.
4. If there is a third sentence, what information does it provide?

The third sentence provides background knowledge,or extra information.
5. Do any captions include a quote?yes.
6. Are there any that have four sentences?no.
G. Why do you think it is possible to tell a complete story with just photos and captions?
Because the minimalist information allows for interoperation.
H. If you can create a story with just photos and captions, why bother writing a story at all?

Not everything is able to be told through photos, and sometimes words are needed to do the explaining photos cant.

PORTRAITS AND SELF PORTRAITS PT 1

BEST TIPS:

-Play with Eye Contact:It is amazing how much the direction of your subject’s eyes can impact an image. Most portraits have the subject looking down the lens – something that can create a real sense of connection between a subject and those viewing the image.

- Introduce a Prop:Add a prop of some kind into your shots and you create another point of interest that can enhance your shot.

-Take Unfocused Shots:As photographers we have ‘sharp focus’ drummed into us as an ultimate objective to achieve in our work – but sometimes lack of focus can create shots with real emotion, mood and interest.

ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAITS:

I like this photo because of the vibrant flowers framing the men,and i chose it because it was unique amongst the other ones that                    popped up in the search engine

I like this photo because its humours yet pretty at the same time             with the vines wrapped around                              him, flowers in the background. And i chose it for the same reason.

PHOTOGRAPHY SELF PORTRAIT:

I like that this photo tells a story other than there is a man at breakfast,if you pay attention.
and i chose it for that reason, and the old time diner setting

i like that this photo it shot with a film camera,
and i chose it because i thought the lighting was interesting.

CASUAL PORTRAIT:

i like that this photo could have been bare if it wasn't for the different lights shinning on her.And i selected it for that reason,                and the colors compliment each other

I like the simplicity of this photo,i chose it because i love Obama.

PLANNING PORTRAIT ASSIGNMENT:
i will shoot a variety of people,(friends, family strangers).I would like to shoot indoors and out.And to make the shots intresting i will consider the portrait tips,& add the photography rules.

Africa and Abandoned theme parks

AFRICA
1. My reaction to what I saw the photos was shock. He captured the true beauty of the animals and showed them in a way like nothing else. Each photo of the animals showed immensely moving emotion and clarity of the various animals.

2.
3. This photo shows self strength. The elephant is by itself but shows no sign of worry. To the right of the elephant is  dust, and the other side, clarity. I like the contrasting of the back round and i think it shows both optimism and pessimism within this one photo.

4. He used simplicity, because you can clearly see the subject is the elephant.

5. Nick used a Pentax 67ll, it is important so he can capture the clarity and emotion in each of his pictures.

6. His interest in taking these photos is capturing the animal in their natural state. No media, nothing staged, just the animal doing its natural things.

7. He hopes he can make the world more aware with his photos, and the message behind them.

ABANDONED THEME PARKS

1.) I would have liked to visit Six Flags New Orleans. With a old diner in the park, and old wooden roller coasters, the park asa whole had a old time vibe to it that i find very intriguing. The buildings within the park are something i find interesting. Its as that within the park there is a small old town further progressing the old time feel i admire.
2.)

3.)

-Abandoned sky scrappers
-Old ghost towns
-Marfa Texas
-The streets of Paris,London,& NewYork City
-Old art exhibits

4.)Marfa Texas,

5.)I think it would be fun to document Marfa Texas because i like the aesthetic of the town. Marfa is a  small town in west Texas in the middle of nowhere, But what strikes me about it is that its so different from its surroundings. Its a small minimalist ,stripped town town on the outside ,but the buildings on the inside often hold art, and local crafts, which i think is an amazing way to keep the town amazing treasures hidden and kept to minimum in person viewing. I could pictures of the art in the town, the buildings, the infamous Prada store, the locals, the tourists, the glamping ,etc...

6.)To travel to Marfa and take pictures all i would need is a camera, money, and transportation.
